About MSSL

The MSSL is the premier Men's Open Age Competitive Soccer League in Masschusetts. The League is affiliated with Massachusetts State Soccer Association(MASS), the United States Amateur Soccer Association (USASA) and the United States Soccer Federation(USSF). The League is incorporated as a non-profit organization for the purpose of developing, promoting and administering the game of soccer among players of all ages in Massachusetts.

The MSSL is comprised of 3 divisions. The MSSL Men's Open Division, the MSSL International Premier Division (IPD), and the MSSL Youth Division. The MSSL Men's Open Division primarily serves the 18-30 year old elite athletes, with some exceptions. The MSSL International Premier Division serves the Over 30, 0ver 40, and Over 50 year old premier athletes. The MSSL Youth Division serves the youth player between the ages of 8-17. The League is based in the Greater Boston Area but includes teams within the Rt. 495 belt as well as some new teams from the State of Rhode Island.

The Open Division primarily serves players between the ages 18-30 and consists of two divisions. The first division includes 10 teams and the second division includes 14 teams. The league utilizes the international standards of promotion and relegation system in order to maintain the most competitive play at the higher division. The promotion of teams utilizes having the top two teams of the lower division promoted to the next higher division and the lower two teams in the higher division relegated to the lower division. The open division season begins in mid April and ends in early November. No games are scheduled in July. The MSSL Men's Open Division has produced 5 regional championships in the last 10 years and 1 national championship in the USASA's National Amateur Cup.

The MSSL International Premier Division is a newly formed division that serves athletes over 30, over 40 and over 50 years of age. Players must be of age to participate in their respective age group within the calendar year. For its first ever season, the MSSL Internation Premier Division has launched with a total of 12 premier teams, 4 teams in each respective age group. The IPD will have two seasons, one in the spring and one in the fall. The spring season begins in mid April and ends before July. The fall season begins after Labor Day in September and ends in early November.

The newly formed MSSL Youth Division is something we are most proud of. It is a development program which will promote the game of soccer to our younger athletes between the ages of 8-17. The MSSL Youth Division will launch its first year with 10 teams to start play in the Spring of 2008. The MSSL Youth Division plays a spring schedule starting in mid April and ends before July.

The purpose of having the above divisions is to allow the MSSL to develop our younger elite players and use a feeder system to fill our premier divisions. The goal is to turn our young player into a premier player who will be able to compete at a higher level throughout the player's adult career.
